Description:
Picture this: you are driving down Mannypenny Avenue towards Lake Superior, with Madeline Island in the distance, you see a bright pink building, trimmed in an equally bright teal. The presence of a number of unusual flamingos and other assorted artistic features causes you to slow down. Yup, it’s Maggie’s Restaurant, one of the longest standing eateries in Bayfield. Go ahead. Stop now and enjoy a great meal.
Open for both lunch and dinner throughout the year, locals and visitors are ensured a gracious welcome, a bit of fun and a great meal. The interior décor is… well… eclectic with an emphasis on flamingos. One can get caught up on the colors, the photos, the train set traveling tracks near the ceiling. But wait. You are here to eat!
The broad menu offers options that can pretty much meet anyone’s needs or expectations. Simple appetizers, great soups, range of entrees and of course, dessert. Being located on Lake Superior in what has historically been a fishing village helps with fresh whitefish and lake trout being available much of the year. Bayfield berries and fruits (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, apples, pears and more!) tend to dominate many of the items on the menu.
Some wonderful options include…
Burgers – Rice Lake Northern Bison Burger
Pizza – Maggies Greek Salad Pizza
Maggie’s Steak of the Day
Desert – Chocolate Flourless Tart
…simply a sampling of the range of menu options.
Maggie’s offers a full bar. They are open all year, but know in the summer months they will be busy. They do not take reservations, but don’t let that stop you. A sweet little porch is available to sit a have a drink while waiting for your table.
Maggies – “Bayfield Original Legendary Eatery”. Enjoy.
From the Author: My family has been eating at Maggie’s forever. Well, for many years. We walk into this restaurant and have instant memories of many meals with extended family and friends. The atmosphere is such fun. And truly, the food is wonderful. What we have come to appreciate is what seems to be increasing use of local foods (for example, those bison burgers are from NW Wisconsin bison) and adjusting the menu to continually recognize special diets. They do offer gluten-free alternatives to many of the menu items. We are now taking our grandchildren to Maggie’s – nothing is more fun that having them turn on the train set mounting high on the wall around the room. The spirit of Maggie’s is good food in a terrifically fun atmosphere.
