Description:

Louisiana Music Factory was a beloved fixture on Decatur Street in the French Quarter, across from the House of Blues, since 1996.    Now it’s moved to the ever-expanding Frenchmen Street entertainment district, with its grand “re-opening” on March 8, 2014. And that makes it an integral part of the popular music scene that draws locals and tourists alike.   When you’re checking out the bands at clubs like Bamboula, or Snug Harbor, or Spotted Cat, or D.B.A., or Three Muses, dotting the street like pats of butter in a bowl of grits, stop in the shiny new store at 421 Frenchmen (at the corner of Decatur).   Listen to the latest Louisiana music releases, or flip through the vinyl section.   It’s easier to park now than it was in the Quarter, and it just feels right for a record store to be around all that music.  In fact, the grand re-opening was a music event itself, with live sets from neo-trad jazz Tuba Skinny; bluesman Johnny Sansone; New Orleans’ version of Tex-Mex, The Iguanas; and R&B/Soul soloist Eric Lindell. You could feel the love for owner Barry Smith and his knowledgeable staff that day for sure-what a crowd!   Whoever you’re going to hear at a club is bound to have a CD at LMF, and Barry and the gang can help you find it.   LMF continues its popular live in-store performances on Saturday afternoons.  Make sure to stop by if you’re in town for JazzFest to hear some free music. Open daily 11AM-8PM.
