Description:

At the Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum visitors can experience village and farm life in Lancaster County, PA just like it was in the 18th & 19th century. There are approximately 100 acres and many historic buildings to explore. You can review the history of an early Pennsylvania German settlement at the museum which was opened in 1925 by two brothers, Henry & George Landis at their residence in Landis Valley. The brothers had a passion for collecting “things of the past.” They preserved farm and household objects of their German heritage as well as tools and farm equipment of yesteryear.

The museum preserves, collects and interprets the history and culture of the PA German rural community beginning in 1740. In 1953, the Commonwealth of PA acquired the museum and it now has many exhibit areas or structures original to the Landis Valley area and includes a hotel, a crossroads village, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, gunsmith shop, bake shop and smokehouse as well as animals and heirloom plants.

Volunteers serve to demonstrate the skills and crafts of the early German rural life and explain the PA Dutch traditions. Horse-drawn wagon rides are also offered. There is a visitors center where you can watch a 15-minute movie thatĀ gives you a brief history before exploring the grounds.

Open year ’round. Monday – Saturday 9:00AM – 5:00 PM; Sunday 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Handicap accessible; wheel chairs available on site.
