Kalorama Park is nestled at the corner of Kalorama Park 19^th street and Kalorama Road Northwest. The three-acre park is surrounded by lush trees and historic apartments. The name Kalorama means “beautiful view” in Greek, evoking the history of the area. The land used to be an estate owned by a very wealthy industrialists, then divided into separate parcels. The park currently has a field for soccer, frisbee, as well as a couple of basketball courts on its lower west side. There is also a large community garden on the east side, where locals can help cultivate a small garden plot for themselves and the local community. Families of all shapes and sizes come out for a lazy weekend–especially when the weather is on the warmer side. Kalorama Park has a healthy history of visitors from around the world, so it is a great meeting ground for new friends, too. The small round area for sitting on the south side is a great place to hang out and feed the pigeons a hotdog from the food vendors nearby. The park has seen extensive landscaping renovations and future renovations are planned for 2015. Stop by the park and take a load off during a relaxing weekend.
