Description:

Opened in October 2003, The Great Rivers Museum at Melvin Price Locks and Dam (neighbor to the locks and dam), this 12,000 square foot complex is the result of a partnership between the US Army Corps of Engineers and the non-profit Meeting of the Great Rivers Foundation.

The museum strives to educate visitors about the Mississippi River, including information about its ecosystems as well as its history. The Great Rivers Museum features cutting-edge interactive displays that help visitors to understand the important aspects of the Mississippi River as well as the workings of the locks and dams.

A large model of the area’s bluffs is situated directly in the center of the museum. It provides information about various forms of wildlife in the Mississippi River regions, one of the museum’s major themes. In another display, visitors can estimate how much water their households use in a day and learn about the effect it can have on the environment.

Free, handicap-accessible tours of the locks are conducted daily at 10 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.

Hours:
Monday-Sunday: 9 am – 5 pm
