A drive up the North Shore along Lake Superior from Duluth isn’t complete without a stop at the Great Lakes Candy Kitchen in Knife River. The small and quaint village of Knife River has history that reflects the first days of logging and commercial fishing at the turn of the century. About half way between Duluth and Two Harbors on Scenic Highway 61, this great chocolate, candy and ice cream shop offers handmade delights and a fun gift shop. They follow a tradition of candy making that originated on the Iron Range in Minnesota in 1905. The secret recipes have been handed down from generation to generation, and they create their old fashioned, handmade candy with Grade AA butter, real whipping cream and the finest quality of chocolate.
Their sampler gift box features a variety of their hand-dipped chocolates and makes a perfect gift. All kinds of unique bags and boxes of delicious candy and chocolates make shopping fun. Their fudge is cooked in an old-fashioned copper kettle and is unsurpassed for quality and taste. They make their own almond bark, gummies, caramel pecan turtles, all kinds of chocolates and truffles, lollipops, mints, and caramel apples. Ice cream sundaes are available in the summer time in lots of different flavors.
The Great Lakes Candy Kitchen provides outdoor picnic tables and free Wi-Fi to make your stop even more enjoyable. Their hours are daily May through December.
