Description:

Do you have an 1-1/2 hours on a Saturday at 2:00 p.m. by appointment to explore your inner chocolate loving child? Somehow, though the question begged to be asked, I am thinking there will not be even one soul who declines this delightful opportunity now available in Asheville for the chocoholics among us.

Those of us lucky enough to call this place our home celebrate all kinds of things with a stop off at this local chocolatier where the finest truffles in the land can be lovingly viewed, selected with care and eaten with abandon. A truffle cannot ease a broken heart but that and a fine cup of cappuccino can make a valiant beginning. Most everyone enjoys a piece of finely crafted chocolate and often an enjoyment a particular food engenders a certain curiosity of its sourcing, selection and preparation. In other words, now you see it as a fine truffle but how did it begin?

French Broad Chocolates has a very sophisticated operation and they don’t outsource any of it, save the importing of the cacao beans. All elements of building the end chocolate product in whatever form that takes be it bar, truffle, carmel etc. begins in house after the importing of the beans from small, quality minded cacao farms located in both Central and South America. The primary goal is obtaining the best cacao creating the best chocolate product possible.

The treatment of these cacao beans is extensive ranging from careful sorting, low & slow temperature roasting, cracking and winnowing, grinding, conching, tempering, molding and finally, at long last, packaging providing the subject matter of the tour at their Factory and Tasting Room located at 21 Buxton Avenue Asheville NC 28801. Chocolate has been linked to romance, enhanced mood and more but this tour would interest anyone who has a love of fine chocolate. So whether you have been captivated by a nibble of lusty dark or the softer nudge of silken milk chocolate, this chocolate tour will help you experience chocolate in a whole new dimension.

From the Author: We use these fine yummy chocolates as gifts for friends and family celebrating anniversaries, birthdays or just celebrating the gift of life! When the owners of this fine Asheville jewel met at a wedding in 2003, fell in love themselves, left graduate school and headed to Costa Rica purchasing a now abandoned cacao farm who knew their interest in each other and in chocolate would land them in Asheville opening French Broad Chocolates? Likely, not even themselves!
