Description:

Kim Pratt mans the tasting bar most days. She and hubby, winemaker Dave, have been making wine for over ten years. The vineyard is located at about 2,800 elevation. That is about as high as you can get and still grow grapes. The view atop the hill is great; you have the vista of the Fair Play Appellation.

“Old World Traditions; New World Wines” is how Dave prides himself. His award winning Zinfandel catapulted Fair Play into a new world of wine making. dkcellars won the Herbert Walker Award for the best Zinfandel in El Dorado County and they became the first winery to win the award using the grapes came from the namesake vineyard, Herbert Walker Vineyards.  It’s known by all the El Dorado County grape growers and winemakers as one of “The Best Vineyards” in El Dorado County, if not the best. Dave likes to specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon. Most of the wines produced at dkcellars are estate grown.

Speaking of estate grown, they make a blend named Rattler Red. The history of this wine is a great story: Kim & Dave’s son Mitch played junior football for a team named after the high school team, the Rattlers. Mitch connived them to let him make a blend and have the proceeds be a fundraiser for his football team.  When Mitch went to the high school, Rattler Red sales still produced money for the football team, now the high school. Mitch is now in college and money still goes to the football program.

From the Author: Dave Pratt has been a guest pourer for Lucinda & I several times during events. For those who are interested in local affairs, Dave sits on the County Planning Commission. He has served on our Agricultural Commission, on the General Plan Committee. Dave is definitely one of our community leaders. He and Kim have also been on the lead for wine making. The style and quality has always been, as we say in our advertising, "Above the Fog....." They are head and shoulders above some of the other wineries in El Dorado County. I highly recommend you stop by to say hi and enjoy some fantastic wines.
