Located in the New Bedford National Whaling Historic District’s restored 1836 Joseph Tabor building, this eclectic wine and tapas restaurant is charming. The ambiance is a wonderful blend of historic and contemporary, with exposed brick and beams and a main floor bar made of acrylic-embedded corks. There is an upstairs bar and dining room where private functions can be held. Weather permitting, they set up tables and umbrellas on the front patio. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating.
The Chef uses fresh, local, seasonal ingredients to produce creative cuisine. Although they call them tapas, the portions are beyond expectations. While primarily seafood, their menu includes beautiful offerings of meat and fowl to satisfy any palate.
Although a full bar is available, they also offer a selection of 9 different wine flights every night. Tuesday is “Drink Outside the Box Flight Night” with a special flight of 3-ounce pours paired with complimentary tapas.
Most evenings local musicians entertain. The dates and performers are available on the website. You will also find a page for Cork TV where you can learn how to mix one of their signature cocktails or some other interesting tidbit.
Those familiar with the New Bedford Historic District know what parking is like. Not to worry, Wednesday through Saturday, Cork has free valet parking.
From the Author: The highlight of our recent spur of the moment trip to New Bedford to visit the Whaling Museum was discovering this delightful restaurant. As it was quite early in the evening, we sat at the bar and had the Calamari and wine before heading back to Cape Cod. It was yummy. We also had an opportunity to chat with the General Manager about the restaurant and the building. It was a delightful experience and we can't wait to go back when we have time to enjoy dinner.
