Description:

The VA hospital is located in East Asheville so it is not the rarity that we find ourselves in this area. Copper Crown replaced another restaurant in this part of town we really enjoyed and still miss so we thought to give the new kid on the block a whirl. We were thoroughly pleased.

Copper Crown finds itself in the corner of a strip shopping center and seasonally they have a few Bistro tables sitting outside in case al fresco is your bent. The inside is fronted by large glass window glass offering refreshing natural light. The tables and booths are artfully placed and not jammed in a space clearly to small for that number of tables. I attribute this management decision to the joy of being able to converse in this place~the noise level is reasonable. Copper Crown is pleasingly intimate.

This place has an interesting blend of food intriques. Every option from remarkable sandwiches to burgers and soups can be found on this sufficiently varied menu. Their salads are beautiful, fresh and artfully presented. The citrus vinaigrette coupled with the arugula and pecans cannot be beat. It’s beauty on the plate is stellar and coupled with being a healthy food choice, it cannot be beat.

One of their most popular lunch items is Crispy Gulf Shrimp with a red beans and rice companion and honey Tabasco brown butter. My husband, who is a seafood frying critic, having been taught the art of frying all seafood from his Uncle Bill and trust me, Uncle Bill had no tolerance in standards, states that they neither over cook nor under cook the shrimp. This statement is nothing short of remarkable. The red beans and rice are superbly flavored and cannot be beat.

Copper Crown serves brunch, lunch and dinner. Monday and Tuesday only they do not open till 4:30.
The remaining days of the week they open at 11:30 a.m.and close between 9:00 and 10:30 p.m. contingent upon the day.
They have craft beer and also wine and cocktail options available on the menu. Kudos to them also for standing in firm support of locally sourced, pork, goat cheese (my very favorite ~Three Graces Dairy and as a goat cheese oficiando, I’ve tried them all.)

Whether you are up to beginning your day with a bountiful brunch, settle on lunch or dive into dinner, you won’t be disappointed here. The wait staff knows the menu and are happy to help you navigate its offerings till you land on your ideal choice.

From the Author: Items on the plus side: Great light inside. Better than average presentation. Not so noisy you can't hear yourself think.
