This well established donut shop sells more than the best powdered donuts in the world, it sells friendship, great breakfasts, lunches, and an ambiance you can’t find often any more.  Usually just referred to as “Coffee An'”.

On a very busy corner in Westport, CT Coffee An’ Donuts sits between a hardware store and a news stand. Politicians, celebrities (Bill Clinton enjoyed a stop here) and anyone who has ever tasted one of their donuts stops in every chance they get.  I know each time I return to Connecticut, I always plan a stop to visit Donuts An’.

Jane and Michael Stern of RoadFood love their chocolate donuts but I prefer the powdered ones.  Don’t plan on brushing all the sugar off your hands…it’s impossible.  Not too sweet, crunchy, and always made fresh each day…fresh because they sell out early in the day so be sure to get there in time!  Often the line to purchase donuts, coffee, muffins and more is out the door! Not bad in nice weather, but that coffee sure tastes good once you are inside on a chilly day.

There are a few tables as well as stools at the counter where you’ll often see dads with their kids enjoying a meal together.  The old timers have their regular places either at the counter or at one of the tables.  The choice tables (and there aren’t many) are along the front of the shop where you can watch the world go by outside.
