Description:

The Captain Kidd is one of the best places to grab a bite to eat or drink in Woods Hole.  Set right on the water, looking out over the Eel Pond, the Captain Kidd has been serving thirsty Cape Cod travelers longer than most locals can remember.  It is said that the real Captain Kidd sailed these waters, and this unique room with a great 1930s era mural of pirates, a mahogany bar with marble rail and old ship memorabilia really serves to make you feel like he might just walk right back in.

The Captain Kidd is open year-round, and comes to life in the off season when the scientists and fishermen gather around the pot bellied stove and start spinning fish tales.  In summer, the adjoining dining room called “The Waterfront” is open with seating out on the dock so you can enjoy your lobster with steamers looking out over the marina.  This lovely barn-like room is also available in the off season for private events, parties, weddings and more.

The “Kidd” as locals refer to is, is probably best known as the start point for the now-famous Falmouth Road Race which draws 10,000 runners including elite athletes to Falmouth every August.  In 2013, the race committee unveiled a bronze plaque honoring the race founder Tommy Leonard, a long time friend and customer of the Captain Kidd.  Who knew that his seven mile race from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights that legend has it started as a bar bet between a few guys — would grow to be so large!
