Though not on the scale of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (MOMA) or the Museum of Fine Art (MFA) in Boston, the Cape Cod Museum of Art (CCMA) completes what in 1996 became the Cape Cod Center for the Arts. Joining forces with the Cape Cinema and the Cape Playhouse, this triumvirate is dedicated to supporting and promoting music, drama, and fine art on Cape Cod. CCMA’s mission is predicated on collecting works associated with local artists, including those on the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and regional artists representing all of southeastern Massachusetts.

A stroll through any of the museum’s seven galleries might reveal exhibitions featuring glass sculpture, contemporary en caustic, works by actor Anthony Quinn, mixed media, pen and ink drawings, pottery or enamel art. Independent art films are screened in the auditorium, and on the grounds surrounding the building a peaceful sculpture garden provides a nice respite on a pleasant afternoon.

The museum hosts a number of special events throughout the year and rents its facilities for weddings, receptions and other small functions. A comprehensive offering of studio art classes, kids summer art camp sessions, and internship programs, along with its art library provide valuable resources for local residents and visitors alike.
