Description:

“Olde Tyme Candy & More” is the slogan for the Candy Strike Emporium. The reason for that is they have every kind of candy imaginable from bygone years and many styles of fresh fudge and truffles made right there in Candy Strike.

Doug – known to all as “The CandyMan” – and his wife, Barb, took it over in 2003 when the store was still down the street. Now, 10 years later and a newer, bigger location the store is a great fun place to visit. Remember Abba Zabba, Mary Janes, Mountain Bars, Black Jack, Beeman & Clove gum, Sen Sens, rock candy…? Remember button candy – those little dots of blue candy stuck on a strip of wax paper – you don’t have to search any more for that childhood favorite. You can sample licorices – both American and from around the world – on the Great Wall of Licorice. In the back of the store is their ice cream fountain where they serve some of the best ever ice cream. Getting back there is half the fun. You go through a maze of candy that makes stop to have a memory about almost with every step.

They are closed Wednesdays, open Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Sun 11-6 and Fri. & Sat 11-7ish. Placerville, like most small towns, has Mom & Pop run shops, so when things slow down with no one walking the streets, shops start closing up & going home to be with their families.

From the Author: On one of our many trips up to Placerville before moving here, we brought our then four year old grandson. We traversed Placerville in the bright sunny afternoon and we stumbled upon Candy Strike in its old location. Grandma and Grandson smelled the fragrances of all that sweetness, which made our Grandson go ballistic for some candy. When we stepped inside Grandpa couldn’t have been happier. Just to watch my Grandson’s eyes looking around was worth every step we had taken before we arrived at Candy Strike. Some Gunther’s Ice Cream, a generations old favorite in the Sacramento Valley, salt water taffy, fudge and it didn’t matter what else we bought - we could barely walk out of the store. Steven wanted to stay, of course.
