If the choice you are looking for includes beef, pork, fish, veggies or poultry with any condiment you could name, sides of crispy fries, sweet potato fries, salads, sodas, amazing shakes, multiple beers on tap, wine, specialty drinks, then….”burger” is your place!

Recently opened this past year in Aptos, across the road from a large shopping center, burger has added great variety and interest to the local restaurant scene. Open from 11 to late is so unusual in this small village, where final service in most restaurants is 9:00 PM, that burger draws in the young on the way home, the after-movie crowd, or the family headed home after a day on the beach.

burger (with a small b) is trendy, like a hip bar, but also very family friendly. There is outdoor patio seating with heat lamps for cool evenings. A lower patio with a ping-pong table and bean bag toss game are an especially nice touch when you bring your kids. Tables inside include comfy red leatherette benches and chairs for two or a crowd.

Service is simple. You may peruse from menus at the front door, or the blackboard on the wall next to the cash register.

Food is named for the famous (and not so famous). You may build a “burger” from meat, fish, poultry or veggies with your own choice of additions. Or you may select from a menu with choices such as:

• Phatty – … a bacon cheeseburger between two grilled cheese sandwiches
• Kim Kardashian – … a double Phatty
• Johnny Marzetti – … a burger topped with house made mac n’ cheese
• Adam Sandler – … sloppy sloppy joe’s
• Ah-Hee – … house ground sushi grade ahi tuna with cilantro chili lime aioli
• Batali – … marinara topped burger,parmesan, mozzarella and spaghetti noodles, garlic bread buns.
• Bubba – a turkey patty with grilled pineapple house made teriyaki sauce.
• Jello Biafra – house made veggie patty, jalapeno, jack cheese on donut bun

Once you order, the cashier will give you a table placard with your pictured celebrity. The waiters bring food quickly to the particular celebrity table.

A fun experience, not a typical fast food restaurant and one I enjoy frequently.
