Description:

It seems that every town has it’s spot. That place where locals and visitors alike can gather, share some stories, some politics, perhaps even some rumors. In Bayfield, Wisconsin that spot is Big Water Coffee Roasters. Come through their door each morning, and you’ll find “the guys”, that group of men who sit down together over a steaming cup of coffee and debate about a wide range of topics.

But here’s the best part. Big Water Coffee Roasters has some of the best coffee we’ve ever had. The owners, Dani and Jon Ewalt have worked diligently over the past 6 years to create a business built around that perfect cup of coffee. Roasted in small batches, they provide a range of brews. Specialty drinks are exceptional.

Of course their bakery items need to be mentioned as well. The scones, muffins and other goodies greet you as you order your coffee. Pretty hard to pass up. Daily soup options provide a midday meal as well.

Big Water runs a business with heart as well. Attention to environment and sustainability is woven into their operations. They are certified by Travel Green Wisconsin and recently received notification that their business is now certified by MOSES (Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Services). This certification recognizes a wide range of practices and purchasing policies demonstrating their commitment to sustainability.

So the next time you are in Bayfield, wander down Rittenhouse Avenue, check out a few of the great shops and then wander into Big Water. You’ll be happy you did.

From the Author: As a resident and business owner in Bayfield, I am always looking at the strength of our local businesses. So often in destination communities such as Bayfield, the businesses are owned by boomers (like me!). But it is very exciting to see new businesses opening in Bayfield by the younger folks. This is the case with Big Water, owned and operated by Jon and Dani Ewalt. They're working diligently to do business well, making adjustments along the way. We older folks will move on. The younger ones stepping up are critically important. Yet what is so cool with this business....they seem to be having fun along the way. And their customers feel it. It's a good thing.
