Description:

Having opened this past summer, Barking Dog is one of downtown Staunton, Virginia’s newest establishments, and it has already shot up in popularity.

With a wide array of wines, cheeses, prepared meat products, and sandwiches, you’ll find yourself right at home in the cozy, wine bar atmosphere. Indulge in the double cheddar grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread or sip a glass of Cabernet Franc from Charlottesville’s Blenheim Vineyards.

Looking for cheese to sample with your wine? Try out a cheese plate like the Dante, which includes crackers, baguettes, figs, nuts, and olives. Wondering what sort of wines they serve? With 120 different selections, you’ll definitely have plenty to choose from!  Thirty of these wines come from Virginia, including such well-known vineyards and wineries as Ox-Eye, the aforementioned Blenheim Vineyards, Barboursville Vineyards, and Breaux Vineyards.

Overall, Barking Dog is a casually wonderful experience with friendly, knowledgeable owners and a fantastic selection of food and drink.

From the Author: I love Barking Dog’s quirky, downtown atmosphere. From the soft jazz music that plays in the background to the lovable canine icon on the menus, it’s a great spot to enjoy some local wine and sandwiches. Also, it was interesting to learn that the name “Barking Dog” was inspired by the owners’ three dachshunds, Charlie, Franklin, and Oscar.
