Fairbanks has a couple dozen coffee shops and kiosks around town, but the the one that stands out is Alaska Coffee Roasting Company.

Located by the University of Alaska, it’s a great place to meet with people for lunch, business, or just a great cup of coffee. Michael has operated this extremely successful business for over 20 years. It began as a very small coffee house, and quickly expanded to take over the vacant rental space next door.

Even if you aren’t an avid coffee drinker, the drink menu will entice you with unusual tea choices, and smoothies. The menu offers a wonderful variety of delicious flat breads and sandwiches, salads and soups all made from scratch. Items are baked on site and daily. Of course, you can partake of decadent deserts including cheesecakes, pies, cakes and cookies. My favorite is the key lime pie.

Sit down around the locally produced birch wood tables and stay awhile. Internet access is free. You’ll find an eclectic clientele enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. View the rotating displays of artwork from around Alaska.

This is definitely worth a visit: great coffee, great food, and great atmosphere.
